Michael Cimino Says He Got Homophobic Hate After Starring in Love, Victor

THIS is why we can't have nice things...

Love, Simon TV spin-off series Love, Victor was one of our fave (super cute) breakout hits of 2020, but because we can't have nice things and we still live in a heteronormative world, homophobic hate STILL got spewed, and the series' lead star, Michael Cimino, was on the receiving end of some of it.

In a recent video interview for Attitude magazine, Michael opened up about how he got some less than savory online messages from hateful people who couldn't handle the idea of a gay-centered romantic series.

"To be honest I actually have gotten homophobic messages," Michael said revealed. "The craziest part is it’s sometimes from people I know. I think it shows where the world’s at and possibly how much this show is actually needed. It starts a conversation and that’s the most important thing."

While it sucks that in 2021 people still feel the need to be toxic and homophobic on the internet, fortunately, Michael isn't letting the trolls get to him, and he's using any opportunity he can to use his platform to educate the haters.

"The best thing to do is try to educate them or realize that they’re ignorant and you can’t really say anything that’s going to help them, unfortunately," he said.
